What caught my fancy this week?

Things that I want this week (but will probably never buy):

I’m going to attend a wedding in the beginning of August (holy carp, when did it become July 23rd?) and I’ve been going over the dress selection in my closet. Since I favor white eyelet dresses, I’m afraid the pickings are slim. While the black halter dress with cherries all over it, is cute for a cool summer night (or a rockabilly convention), it does not say “Hello, I am a grown up at a wedding.” There is a green wrap dress, but I think the material is way too thin for a evening wedding. I’ve been looking for a grown up dress, but with no real success. I can only have two out of the three: cheap, flattering, and classic. Fortunately, this is the internet and on the internet I can be/have whatever I want…
I think my favorite is the River of Grass dress (third one). I’m not so sure about the teal color on the BCBG dress, but I love the sweetheart neckline. I drooled over the rambling rose dress in the Anthro. catalog, but now I’m not so sure how I would look in it. Fake internet decisions…
And since I’m riding on this train of wishful thinking:
It doesn’t say on the FP website, but I’m pretty sure these are Becky Kelso rings. And how I wish I could magically have $268 (+tax) in order to buy one. I think they are both in need of a good home (on my fingers) and I should go kick myself for having majored in a liberal arts degree that is pretty useless. I knew my degree wouldn’t get me the babes or riches, I did it out of love for the subject, but this was before I knew about the existence of these rings.
These days with the job-blues and the mean reds, the year 2007 has not been the year of me. Mostly due to the fact that I am not the most happiest camper with my job and I have no direction in my life. However, thanks to youtube, my eyes are opened…
“My life dreams are to drop out of school, to be on girls gone wild, and to have my baby!”
When I was in high school, I used to wear a different body and body work or victoria secret body splash like every week. At one point I brought every single body splash thing I owned to a school trip and people were amazed at the sheer collection of the bottles. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until much later that I learned that you should test out different scents with your skin to make sure everything works out. I guess it’s a good thing that stuff smells uniformly on everyone.
Alas, that is why Stella McCartney’s Stella will never work out for me. I love the scent, but I just can’t get it to work with me. I once made Sofie smell it in a mad dash of hope that she would approve (she is usually pretty pro-things for me) and she was like “oh…no…just…it doesn’t…no.” Someone suggested the body lotion which I happily bought. It smelled like ‘Stella’ and it smelled great. The thing is every time I use it, I can see the lotion go down and down…since I am not a lotto winner, I use the lotion sparingly, like on special occasions and even then just trace amounts are applied. One time, Chester applied some and aside from my screams of pain, he smelled very pretty. I did joke that some larry the cable guy type was going to come up to him and be like “You smell purrty, boy!” Sadly, I never had to defend Chester’s honor and he never touched the lotion ever again.
Anyway, Stella McCartney introduced Stella Sheer. The clouds parted for I could wear the scent and have it smell nice. I’m pretty sure I did a jig in the aisle of Sephora. The problem is that was two years ago so now I’m in search of a more summery scent to wear. The nice thing about buying body splash is the fact that it’s pretty cheap. Perfume — not so much. So I don’t have much of a perfume collection because I have become picky about what I like and don’t like and I spend all my money before I can get to the perfume counter.
That might change with Marc Jacobs Splash – Orange. I was a little wary at first since MJ and I haven’t had the best luck with each other, but I think I freaking love it. I kept smelling my wrist at work and probably freaked a coworker or a customer out. It’s cool though because it smells that good.
There is a Ted Leo/RX contest over at threadless that makes me want to learn how to draw, be creative, and learn how to use a graphic design program thingy. Can I learn four years of graphic stuff in one week? Hmmm…
Damn the fact that there is no artistic bone in my body! It prevents me from winning this contest!!
DCist wrote a lovely piece on Professor Liviu Librescu. I can’t stop thinking about this man’s courage and his sacrifice.
I remembered the password to this thing, right as I am about to go on a money-diet. It will match my food diet, so let us hope I can lose some lbs and save some money.
There should be no surprise that I am horrible at saving money. If I was great at it, I’d be carrying one of these around:
Or in Rome.
However, with the Met opening up their Greek and Roman galleries, I’m envisioning a trip out to NYC mid-June. Let’s say around the 14-18 ish. Wearing really cute summer clothes.
(I will be there like shareware)
I am halfway in love with this J.Crew cardigan.

I would probably never wear it, but I am a sucker for argyle.
Oh well. Let the dual-diets begin. I shall live vicariously through this blog thing and maybe I’ll actually be in NYC in two months. (Hah)
Looks like someone had an extra $1050 lying around because I went to make sure the eluxury link worked and the purse is gone from the page! Sob! Lucky girl.
There is a muttering going on, predicting that high-waisted pants are coming back in…
I’ve seen a ton of high-waisted jeans in the mags and to that I say, “NAY! NAY! You will pry my low rise jeans from my cold dead hands.”
Sure the low rises could create a lot of problems, espicially with the muffin thing, but if you found the perfect kind of rise (not too low on me), you could totally work it. It looks like I’m going to have to stock up on low-rise jeans…
Like most people, I’m over winter and I’m ready for spring to come out. Not that I’ll get to experience much of spring being locked up in a windowless cube type thing all day long, but at least I’ll be able to imagine it being nice and warm outside.
I think I’ve officially read way too many issues of Lucky because as soon as I tried this slip dress, a voice rang in my head advising that I could wear a pair of motorcycle boots to balance out the cutesy girlyness of the dress. I don’t even own a pair of boots, much less a pair of motorcycle boots. I’m almost tempted to go in the opposite direction and make it really girly, but I’ll probably end up layering a thin tee underneath and maybe a pair of cuffed jeans.
I’m supposed to update this thing every now and then. Hmm.
One of my biggest clothing weakness happens to be the fact that I am truly head-over-heels in love with eyelet. My love usually prefers dresses, but if it’s cute I’ll probably lust after it.
So I did a happy dance when I happened upon this:
I want. I have a gift card that would leave me paying just enough that my bank card is all WTF is wrong with you and why won’t you buy the damn thing already instead of scaring the South Moon people by staring at that dress.
The problem is I brought the same dress last year (only in the white swiss dot material) and I never wore it. Partially because I was not happy with my body (and still am not happy actually) and because I was convinced I needed a tan in order to pull the dress off. So I’m pretty sure the same thing will happen again, and I will just stare at the dress with the sadness.
I do need to find a dress that isn’t so seasonal…hmm…
