ZOMG!

There is a Ted Leo/RX contest over at threadless that makes me want to learn how to draw, be creative, and learn how to use a graphic design program thingy.  Can I learn four years of graphic stuff in one week? Hmmm…

Damn the fact that there is no artistic bone in my body! It prevents me from winning this contest!!

DCist wrote a lovely piece on Professor Liviu Librescu. I can’t stop thinking about this man’s courage and his sacrifice.

I remembered the password to this thing, right as I am about to go on a money-diet. It will match my food diet, so let us hope I can lose some lbs and save some money.

There should be no surprise that I am horrible at saving money. If I was great at it, I’d be carrying one of these around:

Marc Jacobs - Quilted Elise

Or in Rome.

However, with the Met opening up their Greek and Roman galleries, I’m envisioning a trip out to NYC mid-June. Let’s say around the 14-18 ish. Wearing really cute summer clothes.

(I will be there like shareware)

I am halfway in love with this J.Crew cardigan.
J. Crew Cardigan
I would probably never wear it, but I am a sucker for argyle.

Oh well. Let the dual-diets begin. I shall live vicariously through this blog thing and maybe I’ll actually be in NYC in two months. (Hah)

Looks like someone had an extra $1050 lying around because I went to make sure the eluxury link worked and the purse is gone from the page! Sob! Lucky girl.

Low rise forever!

March 1st, 2007 by ella may I

There is a muttering going on, predicting that high-waisted pants are coming back in…

I’ve seen a ton of high-waisted jeans in the mags and to that I say, “NAY! NAY! You will pry my low rise jeans from my cold dead hands.”

Sure the low rises could create a lot of problems, espicially with the muffin thing, but if you found the perfect kind of rise (not too low on me), you could totally work it. It looks like I’m going to have to stock up on low-rise jeans…

bah

Like most people, I’m over winter and I’m ready for spring to come out. Not that I’ll get to experience much of spring being locked up in a windowless cube type thing all day long, but at least I’ll be able to imagine it being nice and warm outside.

I think I’ve officially read way too many issues of Lucky because as soon as I tried this slip dress, a voice rang in my head advising that I could wear a pair of motorcycle boots to balance out the cutesy girlyness of the dress. I don’t even own a pair of boots, much less a pair of motorcycle boots. I’m almost tempted to go in the opposite direction and make it really girly, but I’ll probably end up layering a thin tee underneath and maybe a pair of cuffed jeans.

I meant to post, but I forgot

I’m supposed to update this thing every now and then. Hmm.
One of my biggest clothing weakness happens to be the fact that I am truly head-over-heels in love with eyelet. My love usually prefers dresses, but if it’s cute I’ll probably lust after it.

So I did a happy dance when I happened upon this:

dress.jpg
Holly Sharp Eyelet Dress

I want. I have a gift card that would leave me paying just enough that my bank card is all WTF is wrong with you and why won’t you buy the damn thing already instead of scaring the South Moon people by staring at that dress.

The problem is I brought the same dress last year (only in the white swiss dot material) and I never wore it. Partially because I was not happy with my body (and still am not happy actually) and because I was convinced I needed a tan in order to pull the dress off. So I’m pretty sure the same thing will happen again, and I will just stare at the dress with the sadness.

I do need to find a dress that isn’t so seasonal…hmm…

It’s that time of year again…

Dear Friends and Family,

Sorry, I won’t be giving you a christmas gift this year. It seems as if I have spent all of my money at threadless. So you know, my bad.

Cheers!

Alright, I haven’t really spent any money at threadless (yet), but I’ve been looking at shirts for days and I’m pretty sure the IT people are all “JUST GET A SHIRT ALREADY”, but you know decisions need to be made.

So much for my “buy more work appropriate clothes” resolution. Work won’t mind me walking around with this on. I am so on it that as soon as I come home from work tomorrow and actually figure out what my real bank balance is…I will be buying t-shirts. Lots of t-shirts for…the 23 degree weather. Woo!

I’m really digging these Wellies:

Wellies
(Hunter Winter Wellies via Free People)

I feel like I can work with the basic black ones more than the navy blue wellies. However, since my walking distance from my car to the office is all of two minutes, I don’t think I’ll be buying any kind of wellies right now. It would be different if I had to work in a place that would require a trek from the parking lot/metro to the building. At least I would have a pretty good excuse.
Anyway, for the same amount of green as the wellies, I could buy this:

coatcoat
(Free People’s Winter Rose Garden Jacket)

I am in love with the jacket. It’s very sweet looking and maybe just a little bit more my style than the black wellies. However, I hate the fact that it’s 3/4 sleeves since I probably won’t be able to wear it in the winter as much. I guess I could wear long sleeves underneath, but I usually wear short sleeve tops underneath my coat. There is just something about long sleeves that I am not fond of unless it is in sweater form. Hmm.

I had this crazy idea that I would buy loads of cute sweaters and henleys at AE, but I walked away with a pair of sweatpants instead. Not conducive to this whole ‘building up a work appropriate wardrobe’ plan. I stopped by Martin and Osa last week and looked around for a hot second. It was cute and the store was sort of woodsy and reminded me that I should be well-traveled, well-read (I’ve never seen the McSweeney quarterly sold in stores) and be in a certain tax-bracket. I’m not sure how I feel about these lifestyle stores (hah, says the girl whose middle name is Anthropologie), but that’s another thought for another day.

Baby, it’s cold outside…

One of my favorite songs that get me in the winter mood. I am a dork, I am aware of this condition. Look at the title, do a search, and try not to download the Bing Crosby and Doris Day version as they never sang that song together. iTunes informs me that actually Margaret Whiting and Johnny Mercer sang the version I have labeled as Bing and Doris. Sweet.

Damn this cold winter. I could deal with wearing a hoodie for warmth and now it seems as if I’m going to have to purchase something a little bit heavier than a hoodie. I like the Ben Sherman, but that coat is on the backburner until I win the lotto or I get paid the next pay period after the upcoming one. Whichev.
The Northface fleece jackets look so warm and cozy. A girl I know let me borrow her Patagonia fleece for a hot minute and it was damn warm. I’m guessing fleece will probably be on that list of things I’m looking for in a warmth-giving jacket.

Eh. I’m just not crazy about the Northface and Patagonia ones. I like them, but it feels like everyone has one. And I’m all about asserting my individuality in my choice of winterwear (hah!). They are cute though…and I bet, warm.

I’ve got to get home
But baby you’ll freeze out there
Say lend me a coat
It’s up to your knees out there

Shoes. You know how there is that stereotype about women and their love of shoes? I am not one of those women. Don’t get me wrong, I love looking at shoes, but any time I make an attempt to shop for shoes, it always ends up in heartbreak central. If I could, I would wear flip flops all wear around, but I like the idea of not getting frost bite in December.

I have small, but wide feet. If they were any bigger, I could totally use my feet as floatation devices. I could probably walk on water thus finding a new way to get into D.C. without using the keybridge route.

But it’s almost winter and I can’t rely on flip-flops and converses for the rest of the season.

frye
(Frye Campus Boots)

I have been in love with these boots for the past two years of my life. Sadly that price tag scares me, espicially since I tend to think sixty bucks for a pair of shoes is my limit. But I feel like I could live in those things forever, but I haven’t tried them on yet as I haven’t been able to find them in stores (although I really haven’t been looking) and I’m afraid of heartbreak. Either from not being able to afford them or not being able to afford them and realizing that they look completely ridiculous on me thanks to my amazonian calves. BAH.

Also I’m considering a purchasing a pair of wellies, but that would only be if I actually move up to PA. Someone told me it rains a lot up in the Valley, so I think I would benefit from a pair of wellingtons. I like the J.Crew ones and they seem reasonably priced. I’m not in love with them, but I think they’re cute. I’m pretty sure I would have lots of fun jumping in the rain puddles if I got the boots.

Maybe one day, I will get a job that allows me to purchase the Fryes. I have heard great things about the company and they seem like they would last for a really long time. Some girl I used to work with, would wear her mom’s Fryes that she had back in the 70s. Awesome, I like that kind of longevity.
