Put it in your bag
Sunday, January 4th, 2009One of the perks of the new office is the fact that it’s only a twenty minute walk from my house. I’m only really interested in walking to work because I wouldn’t have to pay for parking and I would be able to get some daily excersise in. This decision has me rethinking my footwear and bag choices.
When I was working, I’d just throw all my various bags (purse, gym, lunch, etc) into my car and take out what was needed, but now I really don’t want to lug everything all over town. Also, I tend to lose track of things. I can easily see myself putting down my gym bag and walking away from it at the coffee shop.
I’d like to find something that is large enough to fit my stuff, waterproof, and cute. And something that doesn’t make my fellow coworkers think ‘pack mule’ would be a bonus as well.
I think my main frontrunner for now is the bag that almost every commuter woman/college girl has…no, not one of those VB quilted bags:

Longchamp Le Pliage Tote (Large)
My sister has it in green and she takes it everywhere with her. And it seems like the people I know who have one of these totes are pretty happy with it, but I’m really not that into it. I mean I think the bag is fine, but if I’m going to pay that much for a bag I’d rather be in like with it rather than have a meh feeling about it.
I think this would be large enough, but I would really like to see it in non-interweb form. The colors make me happy, I’m fairly sure this is not as common as the Longchamps tote (in my town I mean) and it looks waterproof. It’s pricey and I’m not really sure how happy I would be with it if I held it in my hand instead of admiring it on the screen.
I could do the messenger thing, that would be helpful if I decided to bike to work or bring my laptop to work. Of course that would mean that I would have to buy a bike and my laptop-that-is-actually-a-desktop would have to recognize its battery to be a proper laptop, but it could happen. But just like the longchamps bag, I’m not feeling any real love towards it. And I fear it wouldn’t make me look as professional as the longchamps bag might. Of course if I’m rolling into work with a threadless tee and some good jeans, maybe the messenger wouldn’t make a difference anyway.
Although I am in love with:
But the whole not very professional arguement kicks in again. Also, it is sold out on Kidrobot.
I’ve heard a lot about these bags, but much like the Orla Kiely have never seen one in the real world.
Of course this is all future talk as there are pressing needs (such as bills and rent) that need to get paid before I go gallavanting off to look for a bag. Also the whole actually starting work and getting paid for it would need to happen as well.
